Emergency Lighting

Emergency Lighting Testing & Maintenance

Emergency lighting is designed to activate automatically during a power failure, providing illumination so people can move safely through and exit a building. Regular testing and maintenance are essential to ensure these systems perform correctly when they’re needed most to protect lives.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, employers, landlords, and building occupiers (known as “responsible persons”) are legally required to carry out fire risk assessments and ensure adequate emergency measures are in place, including emergency lighting.

The BS 5266 Code of Practice sets out the standard for the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of emergency lighting systems. It requires regular user checks, inspections, and testing at set intervals to ensure continued compliance and safety.

At ABM Electricals, we take emergency lighting seriously. We carry out extensive emergency lighting testing across London, covering a wide range of commercial, residential, and public buildings as part of our planned maintenance schedules. Every site we test receives a detailed Emergency Lighting Logbook, recording the location of each light, inspection dates, test results, and any maintenance work completed ensuring a clear and traceable record of compliance.

If our clients wish to be more involved, we can train staff to perform parts of the testing procedure using the Emergency Lighting Logbook. This enables us to complete inspections and tests with minimal disruption, whether on a monthly, six-monthly, or annual basis, tailored to your specific maintenance needs.
